I used my IPhone 11 to create this video. I was by myself when I took this video and so I had to improvise. My favorite moment in this video is when you can hear someone on the nearby military base playing the trumpet. It was a beautiful day to get some shots of nature.

The United States and the Tampon Tax
A women’s menstrual cycle is unavoidable; however most states still tax feminine hygiene products. The “Tampon Tax” is a term used to call attention to an unnecessary tax placed on products like tampons and sanitary napkins. These products still face a sales tax while other essential products like toilet paper are tax free. People against the tampon tax argue that feminine hygiene products are unavoidable necessities for women and therefore should be tax exempt.
According to data from June 2019, some states like Florida and California have already lifted the “Tampon Tax”, while 66 percent of the 50 states have yet to comply.
Non-profit organizations exist to help end the “Tampon Tax” and end period poverty. Non-profits such as “PERIOD” is a global, youth-powered non-profit that is fighting to end period poverty and period stigma through service, education, and advocacy.

My first post of this blog
When I was a little girl, my mother gifted me with a diary. Whenever I was angry or upset about something I would write down what I was feeling, I guess that’s how I learned to cope with my feelings and also how I developed a passion for writing.
Welcome to the blog! My name is Chantel and I am currently a sophomore at Central Michigan University.
I have always had an appreciation for writing and I think that is one of the main reasons I decided to major in Public Relations. I am excited for this class, because I have always wanted to create a blog and JRN 340 has given me the push I need to fulfill my desire. I am just an average student, trying to make it in this big world. I hope you will embark with me on this journey as we explore the many aspects of journalism.
